Laboratorio Universitario de Metrología (LUM)

The Laboratorio Universitario de Metrologia (LUM) of the Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena, consists of a laboratory completely dedicated to the technology transfer, the technical advise and the dimensional calibration and verification, as well as the technical education and scientific research about quality control methodologies and dimensional measuring techniques.

Among the services offered by the Laboratorio Universitario de Metrologia (LUM), it can be remarked the calibration of reference gauges and dimensional measuring equipment and instruments that are periodically sent to us by private companies, public organizations and other metrology laboratories, and the emission of the calibration certificates that are needed by these entities with the purpose to satisfy the requirements asked in auditories to be passed with periodical character regarding their quality management systems.

The services and activities that are developed by the Laboratorio Universitario de Metrologia (LUM) of the Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena, can be grouped in the following sections:

Calibration of reference gauges and measuring equipment, verification of mechanical components and machine elements, verificaction of machine tools and other prduction equipment, etc. oriented to private companies, public organizations and other metrology laboratories
Technical advise about dimensional metrology, management of verification departments, development of inspection plans, generation of measuring procedures, etc. oriented to private companies, public organizations and other metrology laboratories
Development of courses of specific education for technical personnnel related to the utilization of measuring instruments and equipment in private companies, public organizations and other metrology laboratories, besides courses for extension of knowledge about dimensional metrology equipment and methods for students of the Universidad Politecnica de Cartagena (UPCT)
Scientific research oriented to generation of novel measuring techniques, reduction of uncertainty associated to dimensional metrology instruments, prediction of contribution to uncertainty from factors involved in the measuring process, etc.

In this way, as a reference laboratory for the dimensional calibration and verification, the Laboratorio Universitario de Metrologia (LUM) attend to the needs of private companies, public organizations and other entities with regards to the periodical calibration of measuring equipment and instruments, technical advice and educational courses for their personnel, as specially occurs with companies dedicated to the metal-mechanic sector and other related fields.
